Jennifer and her husband, Chad, are 30 and 32-years old, respectively, and are parents of both a toddler and a preschooler. Chad works for a small architectural firm and Jennifer recently made the decision to stay home with the kids full-time. Their annual income is $100,000.

Recently, Chad and Jennifer have started thinking more seriously about their kids’ futures, as well as their own. Unfortunately, Chad’s company doesn’t have a  401k plan, so he’s started to shop for options. And since Jennifer is no longer employed, she’s looking to do something with the 401k she has from her previous job. Plus, they’ve heard horror stories from their friends at church who didn’t save for college, so they are very interested in putting money to work for their educational needs.

Jennnifer would like to learn more about how to make the most of their money, but doesn’t have the time to become an expert. And with the current state of the market, she knows now is not the time for educated guesses or whatever fund their broker is pushing that month. She’s got a family to think about. So she needs someone managing her portfolio who’s thinking about them too.
