Danny and his wife, Vicki, are in their late 40s and early 50s and have three children – a college freshman, a high school freshman and an 8-year old. Danny works as an attorney with a large firm and Vicki works from home as a consultant. They have a combined income of $180,000. Most of their $100,000 in investments is tied up in stocks of large companies, which are managed by a big brokerage firm.

With one child already in college and the other two getting closer, they want to increase the performance of the money they’ve already put away, but also meet their short-term educational funding needs.  Plus, Danny and Vicki are trying to determine what direction to take their 401(k)s from current and previous jobs. But the recent market downturn has cut the value of their investments in half, which has left Danny and Vicki feeling a little uneasy.

They want someone who’s smart handling their money, but they don’t have time to learn the ins and outs of investing themselves. And they feel like their current advisor is just selling them whatever his big brokerage firm is pushing that week. All they’re asking for is a little sound advice and personal attention.
